I was so grateful to hear Anilises AP English teacher use the term ear reading even before I talked to her wearing my dyslexia is real t-shirt!! Audio books (ear reading) or audio with text books are a great way to have kids read!! Especially, if these kiddos are having problems with decoding, or sounding out. Can you imagine being on the same reading level long enough to have memorized all the books? It happened to Scotty last year. He could recite all the books he brought home for his home reading. Or being given a reading assignment of 30 pages of Shakespeare due tomorrow? If dyslexics have to use 5 times the brain power to get through it... Can you imagine the time that could take? Plus, the rest of your homework? If you have a diagnosis of dyslexia you can join Learning Ally and get almost any book on your media device, including textbooks. Bookshare is another great tool!! We use them on the iPad and iPod touch. Another reason why having the diagnosis of DYSLEXIA is so important. Dyslexia Awareness Month Day 12.
