I was surprised to come home today and find Iris sp. aff. - TopicsExpress

I was surprised to come home today and find Iris sp. aff. reichenbachii ex Vardar Gorge, Macedonia, in bloom (I thought I had lost it, but it is a husky clump). This comes to us by way of Harald Mathes in Germany, who noted it would not cross with his diploid I. reichenbachii, but crossed easily with his tetraploid MTBs. He concluded it could be a tetraploid reichenbachii. More recently, though, he informed me that the resulting seedlings from those crosses were sterile; he now suspects it could be a reichenbachii/pumila hybrid (compatible with SDBs). Im testing this by crossing with Dollop of Cream, which also opened today.
