I was the first and in part remain the only one of my friends to have a baby, and now that I am in college, I am making more friends my age that also dont have children. I am coming across a bit of a struggle...I think a lot of people have an idea of what raising a child is like, I myself also had any idea of how it would go and how it should be done...however, now that I have one of my own, those ideas and how it is going are drastically different. IMO it is extremely easy to stand on the sidelines and tell people how their kids should be raised but until you have had to fight over what order of clothing goes on first you are hereby asked to KEEP IT TO YOURSELF! I added it up, I spend 134 hours a week with my daughter. Of that 134 hours a week id say maybe 20 hours of that is the light-hearted, fun, non-stressful stuff, the rest of these hours are spent cleaning up messes, changing poop, wiping poop off things you never thought youd have to clean poop off of, calming down a little person who speaks 12 words of english, begging child to keep clothes on, negotiating meals, cooking then cooking again and again until its done right, breaking up fights between a living person and an inanimate object and bribing child to bed. At the end of the day, it is completely worth it. However the thing people without children dont understand is that it is WORK. Day in and day out, it is emotionally, mentally and sometimes physically taxing WORK. I can count on two hands how many times I have showered alone in the last year and a half. Going to the bathroom alone is a thing of the past! ANY alone time, is a thing of the past. It is stressful and occasionally I take shortcuts for my own sanity. This concept is honestly something that cannot be fully appreciated until youre living it yourself! Its laughable when people who dont have children try to tell me that eleven is too late of a bed time, im lucky I even got her to sleep at all. Shes spoiled? Please. I shouldnt say shit in front of child? probably not, however there is poop under my fingernail. Oh, you have siblings so you know my pain? SHUTUP! I think enough on my own if im doing this right, my child didnt come with an instruction manual. It is trial and error and I do my absolute best to trail blaze and raise my daughter right. So unless you have similar experiences or have done this yourself, I DO NOT want parenting advice from people whos only responsibility is a part-time job and MAYBE college. sorry.
