I was thinking today, as I update my Scene Design syllabus: Set design is about seeing the potential in space... manipulating that space to create an environment (a world of both emotion and time period/ place) for the characters of a play or musical to live in and embody...inspired by and driven by the text... in collaboration with a directorial vision or concept...for the audience to experience.
