I was trying to refrain from publicly posting anything in regards to all the political chaos that has been brewing these past couple of weeks—from the immigration reform, tuition hikes and the Ferguson trial—because somehow I feel that it is not my place to say anything… but today, today your ignorance drove me to this. I am not as politically informed as I should be, I am not politically active as I wish to be, which is why I often allow silence to veil my voice on issues like these. However, I no longer want to fight against my fingertips, my heart, my passion, my ideals and my beliefs just to prevent discomforting discussions with “facebook friends”. Your words have disrespected my core and I can’t allow it anymore. Ooh, but wait, before I continue, I must say that this is not about you or me… This is about the countless innocent lives that have been taken by those in power and have yet to see justice. This is about our institutionalized educational system that continues to purposely fail our urban minority population. This is about the exploitation and numerous invasions to foreign countries that our government has initiated. This is about the racism, oppression and injustices that plagues our world, our government and our streets. Ooh, but wait, before I continue, this is about YOU and ME and the world WE live in. Unfortunately, this is not an isolated incident that has yet to see justice; this is another incident that gives light to the corrupt world we currently live in. And your words, “they all deserve it”, is not making the situation any better. What if it was your son, your family? Would you say the same?
