I was watching the NFL last weekend and realized that TWO athletes I played highschool basketball against were now in the league. Patriots all-star tight end Rob Gronkowski and Buffalo Bills wide receiver Mike Williams. I have two vivid stories about both of them. We were playing Gronk on his home floor and normally Im the biggest, or one of the biggest guys out there. He dwarfed me, I was a child to a man. I remember I checked in and acquired three fouls in a matter of thirty seconds. He was such an opposing force on the block that I had no choice but to just wrap him up everytime he caught the ball. He dunked on us a couple times but we ended up winning the game. On the other occasion, we were playing Mike Williams on a neutral court in a tournament. I was guarding a different player in the paint and mistakenly had my back to Mike. The ball swung over my head from one wing to the other and by the time I could turn around Mike was already in the air with the ball cocked in a LeBron James motion . Luckily he missed the dunk. They ended up being the only team to beat us that regular season. To think that to neither of these men this was this their main sport. I say that to say this, as a kid the NFL looked so unachievable, so outta reach. Now, Im watching these two men who I had competed against as a teenager not only have made it but be very successful in their time there. The point of the story is nothing is unachievable, nothing is out of reach. Dream big and any and everything is possible with time and effort.
