I wasnt a member of the grand jury, have not seen the evidence, - TopicsExpress

I wasnt a member of the grand jury, have not seen the evidence, and know next to nothing of the truth of what really happened that day in #Ferguson. Its impossible for me to know whether they made a fair and unbiased decision or not. But here is what I do know -- my heart aches for the tragic loss of yet another young black man who was taken in a manner that further shakes confidence in an already severely broken system of justice. I cringe, knowing that the randomness of being born with white skin is an unfair privilege that protects me and my family from ever having to fear a similar fate in a country that is supposed to protect us all equally. And I cannot possibly fathom the collateral consequences of more than 200 years of oppression that fuel the feelings of rage on this night. And yet I also know this truth: we can change all of this. It’s in our power. Not the power of might, violence, and protest – but of democracy, organizing, and demanding transformational change. It’s the power of love we must summon. No more “us vs. them.” Just “we” in our humanity, wanting the best life for all of our neighbors and putting real effort into making it happen. We must do this TOGETHER. Now is the time. Now is the time.
