I watched last night a film called The Blind Side (2009). It stars Sandra Bullock. As usual, I enjoyed her acting. The other actors were quite good as well. I thought I would share this with you because it is a true life story based on the experiences of Michael Ohor and Leigh Ann Tuohy. When Michael was a child he faced terrible living conditions and trauma due to his separation from his mother, who was a heroin addict. It is a moving story because it shows how it is much more important to act on the moral teachings of our upbringing and our religion that to just talk about them and attend church. Ms Tuohy helped this lonely young black boy by giving him a home, welcoming him into her house and family, giving him an education and loving him. I think that people like Ms Tuohy are the true heroes of our time. These kind of people should be celebrated. The kind of people that help others even when faced with prejudices and criticisms of others. Right now, in our Social and Mental Health module we are talking about depression. The experts recommend that one of the best ways to help yourself overcome depression is by becoming involved within the community and by helping others. youtu.be/gvqj_Tk_kuM
