I watched the Sound City documentary last night. It was really eye opening... prior to watching the movie I thought it was really cool that anyone who wants to make music can basically do it on their laptop... but the movie presented an opposing argument thats hard to disagree with. If anyone can make music on a computer, auto-tune a voice to make it sound pitch-perfect, and quantize all the instruments to the grid (if real instruments are even used on the recording), then what makes the song and/or the artist special? I learned and accepted throughout the process of recording my own album that music isnt meant to be perfect, and small imperfections in a song are actually awesome because theyre HUMAN. This movie definitely validated that for me. Personally, I see pros and cons about modern recording capabilities - Im somewhere in the middle on this... Does anybody have any opinions of their own on this topic?
