I went to Cinemacon the theatre owners convention last week in Las Vegas. It helps me reset my clock, see a lot of movies that are coming, talk with suppliers and equipment dealer types and see a lot of movie stars and filmmakers. Workshops seminars and traing: the show runs from 7:00 AM till about midnight every day of four. By the end you need a vacation. In the last 18 years I doubt there is one major or minor star that we have not seen and heard from as they talk about what theyre doing and the films they are making. We often get to see a very human side of the stars that is rarely shown. I forget to keep a good list but this year we had Mark Wahlberg and his 10 year old daughter, Nicola Peltz and Jack Raynor (no idea except they are in next Transformers), Will Arnett, Leslie Mann (Knocked Up sister, Cameron Diaz, Shailene (Descendents) Woodley, Damon Wayans, Jake Johnson, Milo Kunis (yes it is all true), Clint freaking Eastwood who even after the chair was the only star to receive a standing O, Johnny Depp, Christopher Nolan, director Wally Pfister, Morgan Freeman.... introduced by Johnny Depp as this is God, Tony Hsieh CEO of Zappos who gave an awesome inspiring speech about resposnsibility to the city you live in, Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler came on after a Godzilla trailer and Sandler was totally shaken and scared. Barrymore is hugely pregnant and Sandler demanded to know who the F$%# did this to Drew?! werre not leaving until we find you. Tom Cruise showed up and Melissa McCarthy with her husband Ben Falcone who is costarring and directing her next film and so yes she is sleeping with the director. Channum Tating is really cute and hot.... I guess. Thorn Oakenshield was there not looking at all dwarfish or hairy Hobbitty. Chloe Grace Moritz is growing up. There was a great panel with Leonard Maltin, Cynthia Puig, and Scott Mantz on reviews. Turned out I went to high school with Matin and when I told him that he looked at me like I was stalking him. Which I totally really was not. Maybe a little. That night the final awards evening featured Seth Rogen (famously potty mouthed) Ivan Reitman, Kevin Costner, plus Ady serkis the Gollum body double and its all emceed by Billy Bush from Access Hollywood (athenahealths Jonathan Bushs brother).... I went home packed my bags and driove through the night to Los Angeles to meet a truck for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Stopped in Barstow on 66 to get my kicks, beef jerkey, coffee, and gum. Thats living large on the desert.
