I went to bed early last night; it had been a long week of work, - TopicsExpress

I went to bed early last night; it had been a long week of work, topped off by that spring snowstorm of heavy, wet snow, and I was exhausted. I had some pretty good sleep, but then it happened. My body was tired, but my mind was wide awake. And what was I thinking about? I was worried that my wife would oversleep and be late for work. Silly, isnt it? Im lying in bed, mind racing, looking at the alarm clock on the nightstand...while Bev was sound asleep next to me. Didnt she care that she was going to be late for work? Wouldnt she get in trouble with her bosses for being late? Well, I know how I would have reacted to this years ago. Back then, I would have woken her up and told her that she was late for work. She would have grumbled something back in return, something that either sounded like Oh no, Im late! or I dont work until later...whyd you wake me up now? But this time, I got up and walked into the kitchen, where her work schedule is posted. I grabbed the schedule and moved toward the nightlight so I could read it. Turns out that Bev wasnt scheduled to work at 5:30 am, she is scheduled to work at 8:00 am! Bev would have been mad at me for waking her up too early, and I would have been in the doghouse for it all weekend...all because I worried about something that I didnt have to worry about at all. Our lives present situations like this to us all the time, friends. We worry about things that we shouldnt worry about...will I wake up in time for work? Will there be another snowstorm? What happens if...? We spend too much time worrying, and not enough time TRUSTING! Trust that your alarm clock will wake you up for work. Trust that the storm will subside, that the roads will be plowed, that your vehicle will get you to work safely. More importantly: TRUST in the Lord your God. Give him all of your worries! God is so much bigger than your problems! I read this great quote yesterday: Dont tell God how big your problems are. Tell your problems how big your God is! What a great reminder for us that God is bigger than anything we have to worry about, and that we should give all of our worries and problems to him. He will take care of them for us. How comforting is that! As for me, now that Im awake, I think Ill go make some coffee and take a shower...and worry about leaving enough hot water for Bev when its time for her shower. Because if I dont...well, then Ill be in the doghouse...deservedly so. Amen. ~John Lloyd~
