I went to college at the age of 31 in 1986. I graduated cum laude in the summer of 1990. It was a tough 4 years. When I started my kids were 2 and 1 year old. I didnt get more than about 3 hours of sleep in a row for 4 years. Some of that time I worked doing whatever I could. One of those jobs was delivering The Houston Post in the wee hours of the morning 7 days a week. Two things about that come to mind. First, the guy who ran the distribution for The Post in the area I worked looked familiar when I met him. Then he told me his name. He was Ted Eubanks from the 60s group The Lemon Fog. I had known him way back. He had helped out playing guitar in a folk ensemble my sister was in back in 1967 and then I took guitar lessons for 3 months from him in the summer of 1971. Small world as they say. Then the other thing about those days of early morning drives chunking newpapers out the window was listening to the radio. A bright spot during the horrid days of You Cant Touch This, Dont Worry, Be Happy, and Girl Im Gonna Miss You was The Traveling Wilburys. A couple of months after graduating from Houston Baptist University in 1990 while I was interviewing for jobs and sending out resumes during the day I was back to throwing newspapers. Only this time it was The Houston Chronicle. One night as I was making my rounds this song came on and I cranked it up. Yea, the terrible 80s were over and I had to admit, Its Getting Better. youtu.be/VkFunXTcsoA
