I went to lunch today at Lucky Garden in Hallowell. Not the typical lunch. I sat down, enjoyed the buffet as I typically do (probably too much)! While engulfing my second plate of Sesame Chicken, a World War II vet came in by himself and sat down for lunch. I asked the waiter if he was being joined by anyone and they told me his daughter was on her way. With Veterans Day coming up I told the waiter that I would pay for he and his daughter and paid the tab. On the way out I stopped, shook his hand, thanked him for his service and told him that his and his daughters meal was on me. The look on his face was one that I will remember for some time....one of shock but also enormous gratitude. We the fortunate ones here at home are so lucky and owe folks like him more gratitude than we can even remotely provide. This Veterans Day...pay it forward to a Veteran. If you see them...shake their hand, buy them a coffee or a meal and say thanks with a smile. The smile on their face and in their eyes will light up your day and possibly shine throughout the holiday season. Go forth and be grateful!!!!!
