I went to my first Gay PRIDE Event today. It was great to see all the moms with moms and dads with dads with their kids and dogsI wore my Support Transgender Equality shirt which drew some attention. I met some transgender couples and singles who praised me for being so supportive of my son, but one person stands out. It was a young lady who was transgender and had just come out last week. When she told me that I hugged and congratulated her as did the others at my PFLAG table. We talked for a while and encouraged her and her mom if possible to come to our meetings. I was leaving, but said is there anything else I can do for you. She looked at me and shyly said, I could use another hug, which, of course, she got. She was so grateful to meet people who were on her side. It was particularly gratifying to help someone even if it was only for a little while.
