I will personally never forget this sobering day... I was a clueless young American girl, just turned 21 and back from the wildest European back packing trip ever to exist. My head in the clouds-- feeling like Im on top of the world and just moved into NYC, 1 week before 9/11. My apartment located on Water & Wall st., 5 blocks away from the towers. Totally ignorant & naive to what was going on in the world, I was about have my first reality check. When I saw the swarms of people running for their lives outside my apartment window, I didnt realize I was going to be one of them in a few minutes. I took my most valuable possession, which at the time, was my new camera and called my father to let him know what was going on. I will never forget the words he spoke with the most sincere and concerned voice, Brooke, go now and be careful, I love you. I watched the twin towers fall that day with my own eyes and really was so blindly unaware of the impact this day would have on our nation. With my t-shirt pulled over my head to protect me from the debris, Jennie and I walked 4hours until we found safety in Jaret Kellers midtown Apt. (thanks Meaty) Today is a hard day for New Yorkers. Its a strange, sobering, nostalgic day that reminds me of what life was like before this happened.. However, Id rather not be that naive or clueless ever again. Id rather the clarity and sting of this day to bring passion that is so fired up it makes me proud to be here, during this age, in America.... alive & free & young & hopeful for our future. May G-d bless the families of the victims who lost their loved ones and guide the leaders of our nation to do whats right in protecting our freedoms and against the evil of this day.
