I will say this about FB, it many have become my last remaining refuge of sanity. That statement might tell you something about my world. Developing a spiritual life has always been part of my psychological regimen. I have been through many incarnations in this life time. Forty years ago or so, I became, interested in, as many of my ancestors had done, studying the Talmud. As I sit here this morning looking back through the maze of my belief systems I have acquired, its interesting how these little gems catch my attention. I have not thought of this particular Talmudic passage in mnay decades. I recall it was in the (my favorite) folk lore section and had to do with the evil eye. There were a couple of applications, but the one that struck me was the one suggesting through these ancient rabbis perspective that the evil eye is merely a jealous one. Problem is a jealous eye often turns into a greedy eye. It is in ones best interest to avoid the evil eye, if I recall properly. I remember reading some little, hold your thumb to your own eye and say this prayer, ritual. Like I said, a last remaining refuge.
