I wish I could be as forgiving as a dog...Almost 2 years ago, Presa was dumped in the Everglades by her family. We dont know why or who did it, or much about how she ended up there. She lived alone, fending for herself and trying to survive for months. She was timid and wouldnt let anyone near her. Eventually she was caught and transported to us. We had her for almost a year and tried to find her a home. Six months ago, she was adopted. We got pictures of her in her happy home, snuggling with the little girl she thought was her new family. Although she was very timid still, shy and quiet, they all loved her so much. Well yesterday we got a call that Presa was brought to a very high kill shelter to be euthanized. Why you ask? Did Presa bite? Did she potty all over the house? Was she being bad? No. Well then why would her family ask for her to be euthanized? You would not believe this. Presa had too many ticks. Instead of maybe shaving down her coat and treating her for ticks, her family thought it was best to bring her to be euthanized. You might be wondering why she wasnt just returned to us, since she is required to do so as the contract she signed said that it was mandatory to return a dog to us if it is no longer wanted. Well, she told the employee at the shelter that she couldnt remember what rescue she got her from. Instead of maybe looking for her paperwork, or going through the numerous emails we sent to each other, she thought she would just have her killed. Much easier I guess. Well thank God she was still microchipped to us. The person who was to euthanize her, saw that she had such a good temperament. She saw that despite how scared she was, she never tried to bite or even growl. At the last minute she thought to scan her for a chip, hoping it was still registered to the unknown rescue that once saved her. It was of course, so Presa is now back with us, scared, but safe. The sad part is that if Presa saw her family that dumped her at this high kill shelter to put her to sleep, I bet she would start wagging her tail like crazy, and would be so happy to see them. Amazing how Presa would forgive these humans for this. She has now been dumped by her family twice, yet she still will learn to trust again when her real forever home is found. We would love for Presa to find a foster home or a forever home as soon as possible.
