I wish Id had this list to turn to in early February when I lost - TopicsExpress

I wish Id had this list to turn to in early February when I lost my wonderful chocolate lab Hershey. She was 16 days shy of her 13th birthday. One morning her back legs just quit working. She couldnt get up. An x-ray revealed an horrific invasive tumor on her spine that already had eaten through two vertebrae and had metastacized to her lungs. There had been no outward sign before this. She had multiple health problems, all treatable, none lifethreatening, so this totally blindsided me. The vets told me she only had a few weeks left and they would be painful awful weeks, so I made the only decision I could to spare her further suffering. Even though intellectually I knew I had made the right call, emotionally I spent the ensuing weeks feeling as if Id murdered my best friend. Numerous conversations with vets involved in her care ultimately convinced me otherwise. But I cried every day for months. I thought I never would get over it. Honestly, I wish Id had you folks to talk to then.....eventually I began to feel better, but I find my eyes still filling up as I write this. I miss her every day. However, I must add that I recently adopted a new young black lab mix from Lab Rescue (Watson) who has brought immeasurable joy into my life, and helped me realize that I could love again. Thanks for letting me share and for being there. My beautiful girl Hershey is on the left. The new man in my life, the incomparable Watson, is on the right.
