I wish that people would understand that Kanawha county includes outlying areas that are outside of Charleston and do not get the same treatment that the roads get in the Charleston area! In addition to that we are plagued with portables in our school systems, of which children have to walk in and out of the main building continuously for different classes some as far as a football field! Children in the outlying areas also have to catch the bus much earlier and have a much longer ride! This morning was a very dangerous decision to have school a lot of things happened in our area, buses were late, there were accidents, kids waiting on buses that did not come on time because of the weather! Im glad that they made the decision to close because of the cold weather there are children that are not in Charleston that stand at bus stops waiting on buses. An example our middle school students in this area have to ride the bus with the elementary kids which means that they get picked up at 10 till seven in the morning, then they stand outside of the elementary school waiting for another bus to pick them up to take them to the middle school that does not start till 8:25! I want our children to have a good education but I also want my child to be safe and secure.If youre this upset about school being closed then maybe you should be one of those people that shows @ the board meetings and speaks up for the children that have the overflow of portables & are in & out of the cold! Kanawha county schools covers a LARGE area, please look at the big picture, there are circumstances you may know nothing about! Im glad KCS made the right decision in my mind for tomorrow!
