I woke this morning to the news that Tony Abbott had given Prince Phillip a Knighthood. What’s interesting is peoples’ reaction to this- they are infuriated! Tony is an intelligent man; we wouldn’t expect such a mistake. What’s going on? Actually what we are seeing is EQ, or rather lack of it. Everyone recognizes the letters IQ, or Intellectual Quotient, Tony is very high in this measure of intelligence. But there is another measure of intelligence EQ, or Emotional Quotient. EQ measures a persons’ ability to connect with the feelings of others, and hence their ability to get people on side and win them over. It could be easily argued that our present Prime Minister and Treasurer are low in EQ. University studies have shown IQ contributes 10% to a person’s life time success, and EQ 80%. The good news is EQ can be improved; perhaps our leaders have some work to do if they want to survive.
