I wonder if the whole meat/no meat debate is fueled by evolution/creationism debate? If the world was only 10,000 years old and humans are not related to any other animal... and our food was dictated by a deity... then yes, we could decide what is morally right to eat and not eat. BUT if our species and the species we evolved from all the way back to 25 million years ago was eating bugs, birds, lizards, small mammals, monkeys, scavenging big game, big game, mammoth, fish, cows... our bodies adapted to become top tier predators and rely on the protein from meat... to suddenly decide for moral reasons to stop eating meat just seems to be a slap in the face to 25 million years of evolution. Trying to change it in only a couple of generations would mean mass extinction from malnutrition. Adaptation doesnt work that fast. The thing about natural selection is... There are all sorts of types in the breeding pool. Some are more carnivore, some are omnivore and some are herbivore. If meat was outlawed the carnivore would die of malnutrition. The omnivore would survive, but they would be lacking a huge chunk of their nutrition. Herbivore would thrive. But WHY? Why condemn a large portion of our population to extinction because their bodies are ill-adapted to a purely veg diet? Many of us cant even handle grains or nuts.
