I wonder sometimes how foresighted our energy visionaries really are. Compared to the visionary experts, I am a primitive, going on gut emotional maybe intuition maybe crude common sense. The core of this planet is actually as hot and fiery as the sun. This is only a thousand miles under our cozy planets crust that we call home. If we tap just two miles deep, it becomes hot enough to boil water. This is viewed as an ancient but infinite power resource. Being just a primitive, I have two gut reactions. One is to the graphic I saw of those two mile deep taps. Why in the world would I think our planets crust is so brittly fragile as to be adversely affected in its core integrity by this potential Swiss cheese riddling of fractured holes? Silly me. Then my primitive vision sees the inner core heat being released to the surface at what is an accelerated unnatural pace, and I wonder if the dream of infinite will awaken to a catastrophic reality of unforeseen finite, a leaching of our core til it grows cold and dead. And, energy is mass when all is said, and done. Silly me.
