I work with a horse that has some scars and a divot on the top of his neck. He was obviously in an ill-fitting collar and harness prior to our purchasing him. (With a correctly fitted collar and harness his scars are slowly growing hair and the divot in his neck just needs a little bag balm to keep it from getting dried skin)We know his harness wasnt right but we also have a pony that may have been driven before we bought her with a divot in her neck as well? Are some horses more prone to this naturally because they have fattier crests or can this be completely avoided? Also it looks to me like the breastplate harness would cause a divot because of the small leather strap on the harness. (I know its not weight bearing) Thoughts?
