I worked at Brooklyn Chest TB hospital and will always remember - TopicsExpress

I worked at Brooklyn Chest TB hospital and will always remember the mornings with a hollow feeling in my stomach. The children would line up for their drug-resistant TB medication, each with their own way of coping with swallowing the 20 tablets that care barely fit into their small hands. Some would get it over with as quickly as possible. Others stood there, arranging the pills according to colour, taking the nice ones first and would then tell you in great detail which tablets make them feel sick. This video, made by Jonathan Smith in collaboration with TB Proof, is a powerful reminder of what it is like being a child, diagnosed with drug resistant TB. Children like 12 -year old Thembi deserves better. As society we need to curb the spread of drug resistant TB. We need to advocate for better treatment. Swallowing 14 600 tablets over 2 years and getting a painful injections daily for 6 months, risking severe side effects like hearing loss, for a cure rate of only 50 is not good enough. Watch this video, share it with your friends and help persuade more people to care about how we are going to tackle, and eventually eliminate, TB.
