I worked in the garden today. Well, its not a garden yet. Right now, its a bare spot of earth, prepared and ready to receive small tomato and other plants (still deciding!). Im thinking about this because my hands and arms bear evidence of the work I did. In the spot that is now bare were about ten plants, each with many hard leaves covered in serated edges. I hated those plants, because they hurt to brush against or even lightly touch. And today I accomplished what I have wanted to do for four years...ripped them out to make way for a garden. Yay! My sense of satisfaction and the anticipation of doing something I love in this space are worth the red welts all over my arms and legs. I feel God saying, Yes. Yes, lean into what you love and dont be afraid to work hard. Your greatest passions will come with the scars and the remainders of struggle. Press on, anyway. Press on.
