I would have liked to do a parkrun today to celebrate parkruns - TopicsExpress

I would have liked to do a parkrun today to celebrate parkruns 10th anniversary and Brabrand parkruns 100th event. But it is impossible to get to one from here by public transport nowadays. So I ran my own :-) A year ago my 5k route took me 36 minutes (plus a few hundred yards to warm up and cool down) of run-walk (waddle-walk). On one run last week I suddenly felt I was actually running again; it was a bit of a shock and I soon knocked that on the head; I havent felt like that for about ten years. But on Thursday it happened again and I more or less ran freely for 6 or 7 k through the woods. So this morning I thought Id try my 5k baby route, no trails, little traffic. I didnt bother with warming up either. I felt easy again but was still a bit amazed when the GPS bleeped for the first k in 4:40. The next came in 4:20 and I thought Id better watch it. The third in 4:10. I decided that discretion etc, as i dont want an injury now. So I had a little walk break, and another after 4k. But I clocked the 5k in 23:10, faster than my parkrun PB. I must admit that I dont quite trust the Suunto Ambit; I think it has caught Danish kilometre disease from all that time in the South of Fynen where the elves hang out and the flower girls flog you road potatoes. But my route was tried and tested, so Ill live with my 23:10 for now. At the meta level I would say that my comeback was made easier by the fact that I have been there before. What I know now that I didnt know back in the 2000s is that its best for me to run unplugged. Ill leave the timing for events like parkrun.
