I would like to say a very special Well Done, to all those who turned up tonight for the first time. Some of you have never run before, some of you thought you Couldnt run. Sometimes runs are easy, sometimes they are hard, but the hardest thing of all is turning up on the first night, to a carpark full of hi-viz-clad runners. I know, I did it. We all have. Tonight, we jog/walked around French Weir Park a few times, we worked up a sweat, got the pulse rate up, and everyone enjoyed it. When someone asks what you do in your spare time? you can justifiably say Im a runner. Some people may laugh at you, so what. They are the ones who will be sorry, when you cross the finish line of a 5 or 10k, to the shouts and encouragement of your fellow club members. We have athletes in our club who win races, sometimes big races, and run at speeds most of us can only dream of, but they will be the first to cheer you on, because they know how much effort it takes to get started in the first place. No-one gets left behind, is the club motto, but I would say that support and encouragement apply just as strongly. Trust me when I say that you will get plenty of it. You should be very proud of what you achieved tonight, for many people in the club, running changed their lives for the better, and I am sure that you will look back one day and say that it changed yours too. Very well done everyone.
