I would say he is LOVED over there :) As Sunday’s opening act, Chris Young was the artist I was most looking forward to seeing at this year’s C2C after first seeing him and being won over by his acoustic performance at the Songwriters Show in London at Bush Hall last year. He opened with the title track of his latest album A.M, which got the crowd up and going from the onset. Up until his current album and the release of its lead single, Aw Naw, Young was probably more known for his success with his ballads which has brought him a growing and loyal following of (mostly) female fans in this Country who were eager to see him live – as our friends 2Country tweeted, there probably wasn’t one female fan who hadn’t melted into a puddle when he came on, which was probably why the arena was the most full in terms of audience capacity for the first act of the day compared to both the day before and last year’s event. However it was evident that during the course of his set he was winning over new fans, young and old and male and female, with his fun, good natured and down to earth warm personality in the way he was interacting with the audience. His well-known No.1 ballads You and Tomorrow ensured the crowd who were already fans of his were singing along with him. Those who were hearing him for the first time, were won over by his more ‘traditional’ lyrical offerings such as Voices, and latest offering, Who I Am With You, and fun rendition of ZZ Top’s Sharp Dressed Man, and laughed along as he and his guitarist danced along the stage. As the opening act the only downside was that his set was too short!
