IAF officer out for a jog nabs robber, slashed with chopper Mumbai: A warrant officer with the Indian Air Force on Friday risked his life and limb when he spotted a gang of robbers flee after robbing an electronics store in Sion-Koliwada. Though the robbers slashed him on the face with a chopper, Ratankumar Sharma managed to nab one of the gang members. Sharma was admitted to INS Asvini for the injuries. The incident occurred around 4.45am when Sharma had stepped out of his Air Force Colony in Sion for jogging. On hearing a watchman shout “chorchor”, Sharma spotted four men fleeing. As Sharma tried to catch them, one of them slashed him with a chopper. But the gritty officer did not let the robber slip out. “While three other gang members fled on their bikes, Sharma handed over the fourth robber to the police,” said senior inspector Baburao Gawit. The robbers had stolen 36 cellphones worth Rs 5 lakh from the showroom, Croma, after threatening the watchman with a chopper. The man caught, Shaikh (30), was found to be carrying five of the stolen cellphones. The gang is one of most wanted in the region and is involved in several cases.
