IBB Returns, Thanks Nigerians, Says I’ll Speak On Politics Soon — Nov 2, 2014| Former military president, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB), arrived the country yesterday after undergoing surgery in a German hospital, saying that he was grateful to Nigerians for their prayers and goodwill while away, and that he is better now. IBB arrived at the Minna airport by 2.50 pm in a chartered flight and was received by Mohammed and Halima, his son and daughter respectively, as well as some of his closed friends and associates. Among those that received him at the airport were minister of defence, General Aliyu Gusau; General Halliru Akilu; former director of military intelligence, AVM Hamza Abdullahi; former minister of FCT, and Colonel Habibu Shu’aibu, former military administrator of Niger State. Others were Ibrahim Isma’il, managing director of Heritage Press, Abuja; Alhaji Danbaba Marafa, Magajin Garin Sokoto; Hassan Jalo; Alhaji Umar Ndanusa; Alhaji Sani Ndanusa, former minister of sports, as well as Alhaji Abubakar Muye, former minister of finance, and Justice Musa Dattijo, justice of the Supreme Court who later joined them at the former leader’s residence. The former military leader, dressed in blue caftan with gray stripes, immediately left the airport for his hilltop house, Minna in a BMW car with registration number ABJ 01RY, and arrived at 3:15 pm into the waiting hands of four of his grand children. On arrival at his hilltop mansion, a short prayer led by his friend Mohammed Tako was held in by friends and family members for Allah SWT to grant him quick recovery and long life in good health. Meanwhile, General Babangida, when asked about how he felt about the apprehension on his health, said, “The apprehension is no longer there. I thank all Nigerians for sympathising with us. Alhamudullahi, I am coming up well.” IBB, in a short interview with journalists, said, “I am feeling better. I want to use this opportunity to appreciate my entire compatriot Nigerians for the goodwill and gestures they expressed during my absence.” The former military leader said, “I have been deeply touched by their (Nigerians) love and their affection, and by their prayers. I want to use this medium to thank each and everyone of them”. When asked if the pressure will not be too much for him with 2015 politicking, IBB said that he had been following the political developments in Nigeria while in Germany, and added that, “I missed all of you that welcomed me, especially my local champions (journalists). I look forward to all of you, to seat and chat with you and talk about politics as we always do. For now, I want to rest.” It would be recalled that General Babangida left Nigeria on September 6, 2014, for a surgery to correct some ailments associated with his back, making it about two months that the General left the country.
