ICAO Africa-Indian Ocean Traffic Forecasting Group meets in Nairobi The ICAO Africa-Indian Ocean Traffic Forecasting Group (AFI TFG) held its 7th meeting from 27 – 30 August at the premises of ICAO Eastern and Southern African (ESAF) Regional Office in Nairobi. The meeting was officially opened by ICAO Director of the ESAF Regional Office, Mr. Meshesha Belyaneh. The meeting developed passenger traffic forecasts for the period 2012-2032 for five major route groups (region-pairs) using econometric modelling. They were then converted into aircraft movements and expanded to the city-pair level. The Group also conducted peak period analyses for five selected ASECNA FIR centres (Dakar, Brazzaville, Antananarivo, Douala and Niamey) on the basis of 2012 data provided by ASECNA. Peak period analysis was also carried out for the Seychelles FIR, based on 2012 data provided by the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority. Historical data for Dar es Salaam FIR for the period 2000-2012, provided by the Civil Aviation Authority of the Republic of Tanzania, was also analysed. Representatives of Cape Verde Islands, Seychelles, Uganda, United Republic of Tanzania, AFRAA and the Agency for Aerial Navigation Safety in Africa and Madagascar (ASECNA) participated at the meeting. The ICAO AFI TFG was established in 1998 with the objective of developing traffic forecasts and other planning parameters in support of the planning of air navigation services in the AFI region. It has so far held seven meetings in 1998, 2001, 2003, 2006, 2009, 2011 and 2013.
