#ICCtrialsKE #ICC #TheGrandTrial THOSE AGAINST THE ICC HAVE BETRAYED THEIR CONSCIENCE The ICC trials for the three Kenyan suspects- President Uhuru Kenyatta, Deputy President William Ruto and Radio Presenter Joshua arap Sang- have commenced with a lot of adrenaline. The trial of William Ruto and his co-accused, Joshua arap Sang, was characterized by sharp exchange within the Hague based court between the prosecution and the defense. The trials were postponed to Tuesday the 17th of September (tomorrow), after the prosecution requested for adjournment claiming that the first witnesses were yet to arrive to testify. The trial of Uhuru Kenyatta, meanwhile, begins on 12th November of this year. Nevertheless, it is evident that William Ruto (and Sang, his co-accused) is an ICC criminal suspect by the fact that he is suspected to have organized (with his cronies) Kalenjin militant youth to cause havoc to other non-Kalenjin ethnic groups in the Rift Valley and other areas. Uhuru Kenyatta is also an ICC criminal suspect by the fact that he (and his cronies) is suspected to have organized Kikuyu militant youth under Mungiki to cause retaliatory attacks to non-Gikuyu ethnic groups in the Rift Valley, Nairobi slums and other areas. The result of these direct and retaliatory attacks led to the deaths of over 1300 innocent people, the forced eviction and displacement of over 650 000 others, the loss of property and sources of livelihoods, and they also left permanent physical and emotional scars on the victims who survived the gruesome ordeal. Consequently, when seeking Justice for the victims at the Hague based International Criminal Court (ICC), the Kalenjins and the Gikuyu lead the pack of victims who were affected during the 2007-2008 PEV. Other ethnic groups that were affected by the skirmishes, such as the Luo, Luhya and Kisii follow suit. Therefore, it is ironical that the two ethnic groups from where the three ICC criminal suspects originate are the most vocal in calling for the crumbling of the cases and in defending the three suspects, yet they (the Kalenjin and Kikuyu communities) are the communities which received the biggest blow of the ethnic cleansing and violence that ensued the 2007 disputed December elections. Instead of fighting for their relatives, friends, neighbors and fellow Kenyans to get Justice and truth from the quagmire of the 2007-08 Post Election Violence that nearly brought the country to its knees, the two ethnic communities have already ‘buried the hatchet’ to satisfy the egos of the president and his deputy, who happen to be their current respective tribal demi-gods. The propaganda that has been hatched by the Uhuru and Ruto propaganda machinery has served its intended purpose of creating a false aura of reconciliation and peace between the Kikuyu and Kalenjin. The propaganda has further made people to see the ICC and the PEV victims and witnesses as the enemies of the state or the ethnic backgrounds of the suspects, whereas in actual practice, the propaganda serves the interests of Uhuru Kenyatta and his Deputy, William Ruto, by through its brainwash tactics. If the ICC duo of Uhuru and Ruto were sure of their ‘innocence,’ then why the need to use their ethnic communities, their propaganda machinery, the African Union and African despots to derail the ICC trials, and the Kenyan parliament to enforce the insidious withdraw from the Rome Statute? The Kikuyu and Kalenjin communities need to regain focus and question whose interests they are serving by wishing the ICC cases to crumble without justice for the Post-Election Violence Victims being affirmed. Furthermore, the communities that were affected by the skirmishes are intent to see justice win the day, and the propaganda machinery for Uhuru and Ruto is the one creating a false air of despair among the victims. It is now or never that the record must be set straight, that is, let justice be the shield and defender to the victims seeking justice at the ICC.
