IIJNM alumna Deepa Ranganathan, who works for Feminist Approach to Technology, is involved in a project to avoid early marriage FAT is a New Delhi-based not-for-profit organization that aims to empower women by enabling them to access, use and create technology. FAT is participating in the Global Giving Open Challenge. Global Giving is a charity fundraising web site that gives nonprofits and social entrepreneurs a chance to raise money online entirely through peoples interest in their cause. The challenge began on Sept. 1 and will end on Sept. 30. FAT is raising money to support the Early Marriage Project, through which it will try to help adolescent girls from socially and economically disadvantaged sections of society to use technology both as a tool and as a medium in helping them raise their voices and generate awareness on the issue of early marriage. Girls associated with the Technical Center at FAT will shoot and produce a film on early marriage that will highlight their daily struggles in countering this social menace. FAT hopes to raise $5,000 from at least 40 unique donors. Deepa says: You can be one of them. Every contribution matters. Little drops fill a great ocean.
