IMPORTANT - Please Participate - Cheek Swabs using brushes (from link in this post) or if stored semen - cut one end off of 3 Qtips, thaw a semen sample straw in clean plastic bag and swab with these Qtips. 3 brush samples each - let dry overnight and place each individual dogs swabs in a business sized, white envelope with dogs information and yours on the envelope, then seal 90% of the way (let a bit unsealed at each end of envelope. Place in larger envelope with other samples is fine for mailing (the padded larger envelope suggested to prevent swabs from poking through if handled roughly). Make sure dogs do not intermingle, lick you, eat food or chew on bones or treats or toys for two hours ahead of sampling. Puppies that are at least 4 weeks old and microchipped can be submitted, but no nursing for two hours and must be kept separate (easier to do when they are sleeping). Mail to address on application, which is also linked below. Dr. Pedersen is into next phase of his SA study in Std Pdls at UC Davis - in this phase you can receive information back for your breeding decisions concerning 34 DNA markers examined for level of diversity. Results can be confidential or public, you can state by adding a line on the submission if you WANT them public. This is detailed information NOT previously known or determined by any other means. Some higher Wycliffe dogs do prove to still have higher than average diversity and some lower percent Wycliffe not. Lets find out all about our dogs with this new step given to us by science .... and for the moment - except for purchasing the swabs, it is free! Hopefully there is a DNA test that comes from this study as well that we can utilize in the future - test 4 week old pups and know results before they are going to new homes when we get the commercial test. Greater longevity awaits our variety with this science if properly applied across the gene pool! Here is form needed for each submission. Where it asks about relatives with SA - survey the Poodle Health Registry pedigree for your dog and name the dog(s) and generation(s) that parent is noted of affected. poodleclubofamericafoundation.org/members/ Here is also important detail about study - vetmed.ucdavis.edu/CCAH/local-assets/pdfs/sebaceous_adenitis_PROJECT_DESCRIPTION_3-31-2010.pdf Also, if you know of a dog with SA, PLEASE have their DNA submitted, as those sample totals are lacking. SWABS may be purchased here and take about 10 days to arrive (not to believe the delivery date noted on the site) - but alas - 100 swabs for your use for just $21 delivered. Each Standard Poodle to have three of these swabs submitted. If semen is sampled, three one-sided Q-tip swabs. ebay/itm/Birchwood-Cytology-brush-/231007530828?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item35c91f2f4c Happy Swabbing!
