*IMPORTANT FACTS* HOW ARE ARBONNES PROTEIN SHAKES SWEETENED? Someone asked me why Sugar Cane is listed right behind the Protein Matrix Blend (yellow pea, brown rice, and cranberry protein) in our Protein Shakes. Let me clarify the kind of sugar Arbonne uses as well as the amount and what that means to you. 1) Ingredient lists are in order according to the weight of the individual ingredients, so ¼ cup of one ingredient can weigh more than 1 cup of another, thus having it listed first. 2) 1 Serving of the Arbonne Protein Shake Powder in the US has 9 grams of Sugar Cane, which is low for a meal, especially compared to the Standard American diet. The average American consumes 120 grams of sugar (30 teaspoons) per day. For instance, a banana has 14 grams of natural sugar and a 6 oz strawberry Yoplait Yogurt has 27 grams of processed sugar! That yogurt is hardly a meal, whereas our 20 grams of Vegan Protein shake is a meal. 3) The fact that the Sugar Cane in the shakes is mixed with protein, lowers the glycemic index and helps the sugar to be absorbed more slowly, preventing a spike in blood sugar. This is why our packaging says our shakes have a “low glycemic index, which has little effect on blood sugar levels.” Remember, the goal is to keep our blood-sugar stable. 4) SUGAR CANE IS MUCH HEALTHIER THAN PROCESSED SUGAR. It has minerals and is used by the body as fuel; it isn’t stripped of nutrients by using chemicals, it isn’t as acidic and has a lower glycemic index than processed sugar. 5) A few other thoughts: You can find shakes, even at the health food store, with cheap-quality protein and only a couple of grams of sugar. They have artificial sweeteners (or they taste horrible). Arbonne also use Stevia to get the great taste in our shakes. Stevia is plant-derived, and is a natural sweetener that is ten times sweeter than sugar. 6) Don’t forget, along with the high quality, vegan protein blend, Arbonne’s shakes also have 20 vitamins and minerals, CoQ 10, Alfalfa, Ginseng, and Kelp root powder, as well as flax seed.
