IMPORTANT Papal Nuncio calls on Filipino people: “Don’t buy tickets” MANILA, July 18, 2014 – The Papal Nuncio to the Philippines, Archbishop Guiseppe Pinto condemned groups out to enrich themselves and exploit innocent people into buying tickets for the Masses and various events in connection with Pope Francis’ visit to the country early next year. The visit has yet to be formally announced by the Vatican in a matter of weeks. In his letter dated July 8,2014 to Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines’ President Archbishop Socrates B. Villegas, Archbishop Pinto said the Apostolic Nunciature’s attention “has been drawn to a very unpleasant information” about some groups “already selling tickets” to innocent Catholics in the Philippines. “It is regrettable that some cabal might wish to take advantage of the Papal visit to exploit innocent people and enrich themselves,” the papal nuncio emphasized in his letter to the CBCP President. He called on Archbishop Villegas to “announce to the Filipino people that no tickets will be sold for any of the papal gatherings.” He also suggested to Archbishop Villegas “use every possible channel of the CBCP” and its media facilities to inform everyone of the information. Archbishop Pinto added the CBCP should “persuade people to desist from purchasing such tickets.” (Melo M. Acuna)
