IN ACTIVE SHOOTER DRILL: ATTACKERS STORM SCHOOL, LAWMEN DIE, PARTICIPANTS GOT A LOT OF GOOD TRAINING “Law enforcement is going to have to earn a victory today,” Dan Wehmer, executive vice president of Shield Solutions, LLC, said Monday during the Active Shooter Drill held at Dora School in Ozark County. He was not exaggerating. The drill started at 8 a.m., with a group of six “armed hostiles” taking control of classrooms. The hostiles were portrayed by trained Shield Solutions employees, with about 25 students and 10 parents portraying hostages and victims. Ozark County Sheriff Darrin Reed coordinated lawmen and first responders in the drill. Among the other agencies participating were sheriff’s departments from Wright, Douglas and Howell Counties, South Howell County Ambulance, and several area fire departments and first responders. Air Evac Lifeteam and Mercy Hospital each sent helicopters to the scene. First responders were three deputies from the Ozark County Sheriff’s Department, who gained access to the building and were quickly eliminated from the scenario after an exchange of gunfire. Blanks were fired in the exercise, but the sight of empty shell casings and acrid smell of gunpowder added a sense of gravity to the drill. Several designated referees stood in the halls to determine hits and misses. For more details click the link below to view the full story on our website.
