IN HIS OWN WORDS: Deputy Josh Lynn describes his experience attending the funeral service for NYPD Officer Ramos. Deputy Kiley and I attended the funeral service today [12/27/2014] for NYPD Officer Ramos, who was recently assassinated. Including post-September 11, 2001, this service was the largest line of duty service Ive ever been to. Departments as far as California, Utah and Canada had representatives present. NYPD officers, sergeants, lieutenants, captains, even inspectors regularly came up to me and Deputy Kiley to thank us for our support. Deputy Kiley and I stood at attention with thousands of officers from all over our nation. I watched as both rank-and-file officers, police chiefs, FBI agents, SWAT cops and firefighters cry as Officer Ramos now fatherless son, saluted NYPD officers, as he rode past the thousands of officers standing at attention. His son looked about 6 years old. I will never forget this memory for as long as I live. The whole day was extremely emotional. During the ceremony, Vice President Joe Biden quoted an old proverb, Death leaves a heartache no one can heal, love leaves a memory no one can steal. Thanks to SJCSO for allowing us to go. This was a humbling experience and an unreal experience (In the pictures: Deputy Lynn is the deputy wearing the campaign hat, deputy Kiley was not wearing a hat. The NYPD Sergeant pictured with our deputies is Sergeant Ben Nelson who is a friend of Deputy Lynn. Additionally the San Juan County Sheriffs Office would like to thank JetBlue Airways for their wonderful generosity in providing free round trip tickets to law enforcement nation wide (Including to our Deputies Kiley and Lynn) to attend this service.
