INDIA GUWAHATI UNIVERSITY STARTED POST GRADUATE ADVANCED DIPLOMA IN BIOMEDICAL SCIENCE AND BASIC CLINICAL RESEARCH FOR WHICH LAST DATE TO APPLY IS 25TH JULY 2014 GUWAHATI: The Gauhati University (GU) has started the process for admission to post-graduate advanced diploma in biomedical science and basic clinical research, keeping in view the widening scope of research and job opportunities in the subjects. Students having MSc or BSc in any branch of life science (biotechnology/biochemistry/microbiology/ zoology/botany), BHMS, BAMS, BUMS, BVSc/MVSc, BDS, MBBS/ MBBS-MD, BTech, BPharm and PhD in life science with 55% aggregate marks are eligible for admission to the one-year post-graduate course. However, for SC and ST candidates, the eligibility is 50%. Biomedical and clinical sciences and research has become an important feature in current biotechnology and life science associated studies with huge job and research prospects. In post-graduate advance diploma in biomedical science and Basic Clinical Research (BSBCR), we have combined these topics by framing a curriculum consisting teaching as well as wet lab experiments and assignments, said Manab Deka, head of the department of biological science, GU. The course sponsored by the department of biotechnology, government of India, intends to generate skilled manpower in the field of modern biology to meet the increasing demand in this arena, he said. The students will emerge as skilled pupils in modern biological techniques catering to the needs of varying biological fields vis a vis medical diagnostics, research or industrial application. The course not only develops the individual as a skilled manpower for industrial purpose, but also enables him or her to become an entrepreneur in applied biomedical science and medical biotechnology, said a GU official. Officials in GU said the admission to the course scheduled on August 8 will be strictly based on merit in the last exam. If the number of aspirants turn out to be more than the number of seats available in the course, an entrance test will be be conducted in the department of biological science, GU, said Deka. A GU notification said there will be no age bar for the applicants seeking admission to the course. The last date for submission of forms is July 25.
