Q&A

INDIGENOUS PRIMARY EDUCATION – Bruce Taylor asked: Tania Major, you have challenged the traditional model of regular school attendance especially in primary schools for Indigenous students. I have worked as a classroom teacher, specialist teacher, literacy consultant and as school leader, in schools with high Indigenous enrolments, in both New South Wales and the Northern Territory for the last 21 years. I have taught and supported teachers in the delivery of a daily one-to-one literacy intervention to some of those Indigenous students. I have personally seen the huge gains daily attendance makes to all students. Can you please explain how your model of education will contribute to higher student outcomes of Primary Education of Indigenous students if they’re not attending daily and for all students? What do you think? You can stream #QandA live here: abc.net.au/tv/qanda/join-the-discussion.htm
