INFORMATION HIGHWAY Google: Do you want to see earth from outer space? Go to Google. Do you want a new recipe for left-over turkey? Go to Google. Do you want to make travel reservations to Timbuktu? Go to Google - the miracle information center of the world, technology at its best. One hundred and fifteen thousand square feet of space in The Dalles, Oregon, filled with routers, switches, colourful LEDs and lengths of fiber cable which allow inter- connections to be made 200,000 times faster than the average home computer. Amazing!!! The information highway at our finger tips. But, can we trust it? Can we believe our eyes? Is what we read always the truth? Will there always be a power source so that this invention of man will never fail? We may not have the answers to the above queries, but as believers we do have a reliable source of information that we can trust, one that will never fail. Scripture is our source of light that guides us through the plethora of activities and information we encounter from birth to death. We can read the Bible from cover to cover many times and still miss important points. We listen to preachers in pulpits expounding the word. We read commentaries and discover various points of view. But we want the truth. How do we get that? In Luke 24:45, we read the following: Jesus opened their understanding that they might comprehend the scriptures. This verse refers to the two disciples who were walking home on the road to Emmaus having left Jerusalem following the strange events of Passover weekend. Jesus, the one they thought would deliver Israel from the terror of Rome, had been crucified, turned over to authorities by their own leaders. He had been buried in a rich mans tomb; but when women of their group went to anoint the body, it was gone. Angels had told them He had risen. As they talked and tried to make sense of what happened, Jesus joined them. They didnt recognize Him; but when they explained the enigma they had been part of, He opened the scriptures to them, beginning with Moses and the prophets. By the time they broke bread together, they knew who He was and that what He had told them was true. The Bible tells us to seek the truth, do Gods will, and pray continuously. We are also promised a helper, the Holy Spirit, who will help us to understand the Bible and remember the words of the Lord. The presence of the Lord is with us when we call on Him. God never changes. His word never changes. The word God speaks is alive and full of power. (Heb. 4:11) Jesus says, I am the truth... Google may be a miraculous invention, and we can learn many things about our world using it, but if we want the most reliable source of information, the route to travel is the Biblical information highway.
