!INOMAN (ROOTS) Manenberg Community Arts Experience – Resistance - TopicsExpress

!INOMAN (ROOTS) Manenberg Community Arts Experience – Resistance Project) We are the descendants of the Indigenous people, the Khoekhoe and San; the offspring of the first nations of Southern Africa, who are joined to the land by our umbilical cords and the dust of our ancestors. In order to fight violence, identity affirmation through education is vital in our historically disadvantaged communities. A workshop by Bradlox Vans was held with children in the community of Manenberg, teaching them the most ancient language in the world, country and continent, Khoekhoegowab. Bradley is the founding member of an organisation called KSAAG. KSAAG seeks to revive the cultural and linguistic indices of our most ancient linguistic heritage. ksaag.wordpress khoekhoegowab.wordpress wwwknowyourselfprogramme.wordpress kaapsekinders.wordpress bradlox@gmail Facebook Group: Preserving our Oldest Linguistic Heritage A clip taken from a warm up exercise inside the classroom although a lot of learning took place outside the classroom too! By the end of this week a full programme edited video will be available and longer showcasing clips to be aired on CTV. It was filmed and edited by Muti Films. AFAI partnered with various kindred organisations and people, including renowned anti-arms activist and artist, Ralph Ziman, for yet another South African leg of the Resistance Project. This portion of the project included a giant wheat-paste public art installation on the Grand Parade in Cape Town. The art installation - Coalition of Resistance: Cant Pay, Wont Paytance” – is an image of an AK47 broken by two hands. In addition to the paste, a Community Arts Experience which primarily included an art workshop centred on identity and non-violence was hosted in Manenberg, Cape Town on Saturday, 11 October 2014. At the heart of the Resistance Project is the advocacy for a non-violent world that is both gun-free and war-free. This message resonates on an international level; given the various wars and arms deals that continue to-date. The message and advocacy also resonates on very real, local levels where many of our societies, such as Manenberg, are plagued by violence and gang warfare on a daily basis. Thus, AFAI joined arms with the organisations, Invisible Sun, MUTI Productions, a group of leaders in Manenberg and artists-come-facilitators, Collin Meyer (AKA The Bushman), Yendor Adonis, Emile Jansen from ‘Heal the Hood’ Projects and Bradlox from KSAAG. The goal was to use public art and artistic conversation to promote and reflect upon human rights, democracy and freedom of expression and movement. Some of the key aims of the Community Arts Experience were to highlight the positive and creative elements within our communities, despite violence, and to affirm the right for everyone to live in violence-free, nurturing, and creative communities, together. The Prince Claus Fund supports the African Arts Institute (AFAI) for the project Public Art to promote and defend democracy and human rights. In this instance the training component for participants is highlighted.
