INSECURITY, THE VICE IN OUR MIDST AND WHICH WE CAN OVERCOME IF UNITED It is sad that a number of residents have been attacked by thieves within Jericho. It is alleged that the attacks are from people or youth who are well known. Enyewe something needs to be done urgently. For starters, i would recommend the following basic measures; 1) Report to the Police all cases of theft or attempted theft whenever they occur; 2) Ensure that once you report the crime, you are issued with an OB (Occurrence Book) number; 3) Ensure that after you Report your case, you visit the Police Station regularly for Identification purposes. Normally, Police Officers conduct swoops and invite Victims to identify Criminals in Identification Parades. Remember, the Police can not hold suspects indefinitely because of the Constitutional 24 hour rule which bars the Police from holding a Suspect for more than 24 hours without taking them to Court: 4) I also strongly urge all zones in Jericho Lumumba and Ofafa to revive Community Policing Efforts and also to elect their Security Officials for purposes of legal recognition by the government; 5) Jericho as a whole should also STRIVE to establish a Community Ward Policing Authority (C.W.P.A.) which will have Representatives from all Zones in Jericho including the Police, Provincial administration, County Government, and Businessmen in the Area; 6) The mandate of the C.W.P.A. will be to monitor Crime and Crime related activities within Jericho and its environs; b) to recommend and implement appropriate measure to minimize crime in Jericho and its environs; c) to sensitize Jericho Resident on matters to do with Safety and Security; d) Find suitable creative and innovative ways of rehabilitating and reforming our youth so that they are able to contribute positively towards nation building; 6) The Representative of the C.W.P.A. to work as volunteers for the benefit of our beloved Jericho Community. Finally, it is said that SECURITY STARTS WITH YOU. Let us all try to be CAUTIOUS because we all are well aware of the current crime situation on the ground (in Jericho). It has been reported by some sections of the media that Jericho tops as one of the hottest crime spots in Nairobi. IT DOES NOT HURT TO TAKE CAUTION. Jericho Residents,............ UNITED WE SHALL OVERCOME CRIME POSITIVELY. If residents are willing, i am ready to facilitate the formation of Community Ward Policing Authority (C.W.P.A) in Jericho or even the Entire Harambee Ward.
