INTERAKSYON: World temperatures continue to rise with 2014 likely to be the hottest year on record, driving exceptional extreme weather events including drought and fiercer typhoons in many parts of the world. According to the preliminary report of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the global average air temperature over land and sea surface for January to October was about 0.57° Centigrade (1.03 Fahrenheit) above the average of 14.00°C (57.2 °F) for the 1961-1990 reference period, and 0.09°C (0.16 °F) above the average for the past 10 years (2004-2013). The WMO report also highlighted weather extreme events that have occurred across the world in 2014. In particular, it said that for the past 11 months, 72 tropical storms were recorded, exceeding the number of storms recorded in 2010, which is 67.
