INTERNAL MEMO. FROM: THE CONGRESSMAN. Dated: 30/8/14 TO: ALL ENGINEERING STUDENTS. SUBJECT: STATUS OF THE SCHOOL. On 28th and 29th Aug 2014 the DVC Academic Prof Okumu and Eng. Nzomo were called by the Registrar EBK to give the report of the University on the progress made and the plans underway to determine whether the optimum requirements are attained. They will again go back on the afternoon of 1st Sept, 2014 for the same purpose. Eng. Okaka did not go to EBK, he remained for administration purposes. According to Engineering Act 2011, Section 16 and 46 of the act, there must be optimum combination of the following disciplines; 1. Physical infrastructure (which involves Classrooms, Workshops and Labs) 2. Equipment’s. 3. Professional Engineers staffs. 4. Curriculum. At least we have classrooms and Workshop and a few Labs. To speed up the process, the VC has donated one floor in the Bio-Chemistry building, near 844 Block, for our equipments. Also, the drawing room next to Mechanical Workshop has been converted to full workshop. Additionally, the CNC machines and other Machines in the mechanical Workshop are being installed for commissioning. For Electrical Dept and Civil Dept, payment of 47M and 80M respectively, has been approved by the VC for procurement. Curriculum has been refined and is OK and that is why we changed names and Registration Codes for our programmes. The actual challenge is on Professional Engineering staffs. As I type this now, we only have TWO lecturers who are registered by the board, Eng. Okaka and Eng. Nzomo. A few are registerable and the rest are not. It is good to note that, we can achieve all the other three optimum requirements but without Professional Engineers staff, no accreditation. In fact that pause as our biggest challenge. If there is anything we need to lobby in our meeting on 4th Sept, 2014, is the University to higher Registered or Registerable staffs. Good news is that yesterday, 29/8/14, we had interviews of the advertised lecturers’ posts, and the exercising is ongoing till next week. Finally, the DVC Academic Professor Okumu, will be the one attending the School meeting because the VC, DVC Finance, Reg Academic and Manager procurement will be overseeing and carrying out Interviews and processing procurement on the equipment’s. Thanks for your continued engagement. Kind Regards; Stephen Mwadime. CONGRESSMAN SET.
