INTERNATIONAL DAY OF DEMOCRACY. Democracy is a form of Government in which people choose their leaders by voting for them. Its roots can be traced back to the time of the Ancient Greeks. Today, the goal of democracy is to preserve and promote the dignity and rights of the individual, achieve social equality and justice, and nurture economic and social development to ensure the well being of society. The UN has declared 15th September as the International Day of Democracy with the aim of raising public awareness, and strengthening the ideals of democracy around the world.
