INVESTIGATION OF ALLEGATION AT LARIMER COUNTY JAIL On July 20, 2014, an inmate at the Larimer County Jail alleged that a Correctional Deputy had used excessive force against him while he was being escorted to the booking area for additional processing. The supervisory staff, along with members of the Larimer County Sheriffs Office Professional Standards Unit, initiated a review of the complaint and the Correctional Deputy was placed on paid administrative leave. After the initial review, the case was turned over to the Larimer County Investigations Division for follow-up. The deputy remains on paid leave at this time. This case remains under investigation by the Larimer County Sheriffs Office in conjunction with the Larimer County District Attorneys Office. The name of the inmate and the Correctional Deputy will not be released at this time. Further information will be released once the Larimer County District Attorneys Office conducts a final review of the case. Sheriff Smith wishes to reiterate that he and his supervisory staff take all complaints of excessive force seriously and are committed to upholding the public trust while still allowing such complaints to be thoroughly investigated and subjected to due process for both complainants and employees. Due to the on-going nature of this investigation, no further information will be available at this time. These allegations are merely an accusation, and the accused are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty. larimersheriff.org/press-release/investigation-allegation-larimer-county-jail#
