INVITATION FROM THE US EMBASSY KIGALI: Apply Now Dear Friends, I am pleased to announce the U.S. Embassy will soon be offering a facilitated session of the university course Beyond Silicon Valley: Growing Entrepreneurship in Transitioning Economies. Because of your organizations’ work in promoting entrepreneurship in Rwanda, I would like to invite you and/or members of your staff or your community of stakeholders to participate in the course. Beyond Silicon Valley is a massive open online course, or MOOC, offered by Case Western Reserve University through the Coursera online learning platform. It is taught by Professor Michael Goldberg and covers the topic of how governments, donors, NGOs, and financial institutions can foster entrepreneurship, using the city of Cleveland, Ohio (USA) as an example. Laurie Pickard, Rural Enterprise Development and Entrepreneurship Specialist at USAID, will act as course facilitator. For this facilitated session, the U.S. Embassy is seeking a professional audience of practitioners in entrepreneurship promotion. The course presents a great opportunity for networking, discussion with other entrepreneurship professionals, as well as exposure to best practices, case studies, and strategies for entrepreneurship support and promotion. Lectures will be screened and discussions held during five one-hour sessions in the Embassy’s Information Resource Center (IRC) at the following dates and times: Tuesday, October 7, 10-11 AM Tuesday, October 14, 10-11 AM Tuesday, October 21, 10-11 AM Tuesday, October 28, 10-11 AM Tuesday, November 18, 10-11 AM Course requirements outside of class will include reading, written reflections, online quizzes, and online discussions. Course participants may use the IRC to complete coursework, or may access the course materials and assignments using any internet-connected computer. Those who complete all the requirements of the course will earn a Statement of Accomplishment. In order to be eligible for the facilitated course, the applicant must have strong English speaking and writing skills and be available for at least four of the five facilitated sessions.
