INVITATION TO JOIN THE OSSINING HISTORICAL SOCIETY Miguel Hernandez You are herewith invited to join The Ossining Historical Society Museum (OHSM). It was established back in 1931 and is chartered by the State of New York as an educational institution and as a 501C3 tax exempt organization by the Internal Revenue Service. OHSM (pronounced awesome) is the area’s premiere organization dedicated to preserving Ossining’s rich culture and history. Each year, it conduct a series of historically oriented tours, lectures and other events that highlight Ossining’s role in the sweep of regional, state and national history. The museum has an extensive array of art works, photographs, books, newspapers, documents and other objects that display the community’s two plus centuries of recorded history as well as objects that once belonged to the indigenous people who lived here long before. Membership includes a very informative newsletter (The Ossining Historical Register) that is issued three times a year. We are an all-volunteer membership organization with a small cadre of unpaid but well qualified historians, curators, researchers, guides etc. who are at your disposal by appointment year-round. OHSM’s purposes are to: educate the public in the history and traditions of Ossining and vicinity; receive and maintain a collection of books, manuscripts, pictures, historical records, relics, and other memorials bearing upon local and general history and to promote through the establishment and maintenance of a museum and allied projects programs which bring about better understanding and appreciation of history through the collection, conservation, preservation, restoration, study, and exhibition of items of historical importance.
