IPENZ Manawatu Branch July meeting Topic: Water Policy in New Zealand Speaker: Murray Gibb, Chief Executive, Water New Zealand When: 5.30 pm Thursday, 25 July Where: Te Manawa – Wilkins Theatrette, 326 Main Street, Palmerston North For many years water management in New Zealand was not a high priority area for public policy. This has now changed. There is a growing realisation that New Zealand’s abundant water resource is providing us with strategic advantage in an increasingly resource-constrained world. Locally declining water quality, improved harvesting and storage, reticulated infrastructure and revised methods of allocation and transfer are now high priority matters. Over the next few years New Zealand will put in place a revised governance system for water. Murray’s presentation will include: - An overview of New Zealand’s water resource - Current governance arrangements - Challenges - Policy initiative to deal with these challenges. All welcome
